Tour brief

Discover at handlebar level the tapestry of river life as fascinating and varied as the Mekong from Siem Reap to Phnom Penh. Visit the least tourist visited temple of Sambor Preikuk and experience a local life along the Mekong river.

Itinerary
Phnom Penh to Siem Reap Cycle along the Mekong 3 Days / 2 Nights

Day 1Siem Reap - Kampong Thom

After your breakfast, we head to Kampong Thom by private vehicle (2.5 hours). We then start to cycle to the lesser visited Sambor Prei Kuk, a pre-Angkorian temple complex. Most temples in the complex brick between the years 615 and 650. Sambor Prei Kuk served as the capital before the Angkor period, under the Chenla Kingdom. Cycle through these magnificent ruins, which are connected by shady dirt paths. Stop for lunch at a local community. After lunch, you can continue to cycle or get in a vehicle to the hotel.

Meals included: Lunch, Dinner
Overnight in Kampong Thom

Day 2Kampong Thom - Kampong Cham

Today we drive into the countryside of Kampong Thmor and get ready to get back in the saddle. We begin to ride through tropical farmlands where sweet potatoes, peanuts and rubber are produced. After lunch, we continue to cycle on a quiet sealed road past more villages and pagodas, as you follow the course of the Mekong River that keeps coming and going from view. Arrive in Kampong Cham, visit Koh Pen Island, a rural island in the Mekong River, connected to the southern reaches of Kompong Cham town by an elaborate bamboo bridge. This bridge is hand built by locals at the beginning of every dry season (Jan-May), and it then taken down at the beginning of the wet season, when a ferry transports people across to the island.

Cycle distanced approx. 65km

Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Overnight in Kampong Cham

Day 3Kampong Cham - Phnom Penh

Follow the course of the Mekong River towards Phnom Penh. Foreigners are rare through these areas, so expect a few surprised faces as you cycle through the many traditional villages. You will witness people busy with their everyday lives; cooking, cleaning, playing and leading the cows to the river. Pass by cycling school kids and see pagodas and monks. Watch the sun drying bright red chilies, pepper, rice and fish by the side of the road, and experience the river life of the mighty Mekong, which will keep coming in and out of view. There are plenty of shady and scenic spots for rest breaks, where curious locals are sure to say “Hello.” After ride for 65km, you will be transferred to the Phnom Penh city.
