The Chambok Ecotourism Site was established in 2002 with support from an environmental non-governmental organization called ‘Mlup Baitong’. Chambok provides many attractions and activities to local and international tourists who are interested in nature.
Chambok is a community of 9 villages and is located in the Southwest of Cambodia next to Kirirom National Park. In total 761 families live in the area and most of them are farmers. They grow rice and vegetable or raise chickens, cows and pigs. Tourism is another source of income for the villagers and they use all received revenues to protect the forest and manage it in a sustainable way for future generations. Since 2003, the Chambok community has protected 1,260 hectares of forestland from logging and hunting.
Visitors can experience a unique form of community-based ecotourism, which gives them a perfect opportunity to explore the village-life and discover the area’s beautiful natural surroundings. Tourists can join a guided trekking tour to the 40-meter high waterfall and learn more about the animals living in the forests and plants growing there. It is also possible to jump into the refreshing water at the base of a cascading waterfall or have a swim in one of the streams. Other offered activities are: renting a bicycle, go for an ox-cart ride, learn how to make traditional crafts, participating in a cooking class or spend the night with a local family in one of the home-stays.
